Despite public concerns, national governments call for dismantling encryption. It is impossible to weaken encryption for criminals, while keeping it strong for legitimate use. It's a classic case of trying to have your cake and eat it.
Perhaps not every #MEP can be sufficiently qualified to understand #security in general, information security in particular or computer information security specifically, but every MEP and parliamentary group have a budget available to pay for expert advice on exactly this kind of thing (as opposed to pocketing it or blowing it up on expensive dinning).
